3 Safety Tips for Grilling in an Apartment

3 Safety Tips for Grilling in an Apartment

What could be better than enjoying a delicious grilled meal in the comfort of your own home? If this sounds like your dream, you most likely want to grill the food yourself.

However, if you live in an apartment, how are you supposed to make this happen? Here are three safety tips for grilling in an apartment.

Make Sure You Have Enough Space

Grilling on your balcony might be the only place you can do it near your apartment. But you must be mindful of anything near the grill that could catch fire or disrupt your grilling session. For instance, if there’s an awning or tree branch nearby, it could put you in harm's way if you’re too focused on your food.

Before you fire up the grill, make sure to clear out your grilling area to prevent the worst from happening. Additionally, any umbrellas, hanging plants, or holiday decorations will need to come down to ensure your safety.

Always Keep the Lid Open When Starting

To prevent your grill from turning into an explosive fireball, always keep the lid open when you're starting it. This is especially important if you use a gas grill because gas can build up and create a major hazard if the lid remains closed.

If your fire doesn't last, be sure to turn your grill off before lighting it again. But wait at least five minutes before you relight. Thankfully, if you use coconut charcoal briquettes, they’ll burn for a long time.

Never Leave Your Grill Unattended

Accidents and emergencies always seem to happen when you least expect them. For this reason, you never want to take your eyes off the grill while you cook. However, if you need to step away for a moment, make sure you have someone there with you to watch the grill while you’re away.

Following this rule will protect you and those around you. If you have any kids or pets, this will also prevent them from touching the flames or knocking the grill over. Make sure your kids and pets are always at least four feet from the grill, even after you put it out.

Overall, grilling is an exciting and tasty hobby, but it does come with risks. However, now that you know three safety tips for grilling in an apartment, you can cook your favorite foods without having to worry!
